Reverend Wesley A. James Minority Business Spotlight: Mobile Airport Authority

We proudly recognize the Mobile Airport Authority as the 2023 Reverend Wesley A. James Minority Business Advocate, an award that celebrates its dedication to supplier diversity and inclusion.

The Mobile Airport Authority is dedicated to diversity and inclusion as it expands the Mobile area’s opportunities through air travel.

Managing airports like Mobile Regional Airport, Mobile International Airport, Brookley Aeroplex and St. Elmo Airport, the Mobile Airport Authority contributes $2 billion to Alabama’s economy.

The new Mobile International Airport terminal in the Brookley  Aeroplex is on track to open by the end of 2025. MAA has a strong commitment to supporting minority-owned businesses throughout the project.

The team is actively enhancing procurement procedures to facilitate the participation of minority-owned businesses, including unbundling contracts and implementing a “Sealed Bid” policy for transparency.

The Mobile Airport Authority provides a range of services to Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs), including networking opportunities, MBE-friendly contracts, capacity-building programs, and advocacy to eliminate barriers to entry.

Recently, they organized the Airport Rental Car Supplier Diversity Outreach Day, connecting small business owners with opportunities at the airport. They also actively participated in the Opportunities Forum for the Mobile International Airport Terminal Project, facilitating face-to-face interactions with project managers and contractors for Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs).

They’re also creating a formal mentor/protégé program to support the growth of minority-owned businesses.

These efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. The Mobile Airport Authority has received recognition from American DBE Magazine and was featured as the “feature company” at the 2023 PTAC Workshop. Vivian’s Door also acknowledged them for their meaningful impact on the local community.

For the Mobile Airport Authority, it’s not just about advancing air travel in Mobile; it’s about advancing the success of all.
