The Mobile Chamber is a private business organization with more than 1,700 members and the economic developer for the City of Mobile and Mobile County. The Mobile Chamber’s focus is to provide members with networking, marketing and professional development opportunities, expand jobs in the area, develop the local workforce, advocate legislative priorities and offer resources to help small businesses grow. Founded in 2017, Southern Glow is an upscale salon offering professional:
Southern Glow Owner Katie Aloi originally worked in the healthcare industry for many years. When she moved to the Mobile area, she decided to venture out on her own.
She began offering spray tans out of her house and quickly outgrew that space. What started as a hobby has grown into a progressive salon where the team prides itself on featuring all organic and natural products.
The team at Southern Glow believes they’re set apart by their welcoming environment and the use of organic products.
Aloi said, “We use products that are as organic as you can get. We see a lot of little girls for pageants and pregnant mamas. So when I started doing spray tans, I really focused on what could be safe for people. For instance, our spray tan uses sugar beets. It still has DHA, but it’s a very small amount and is made with all-natural ingredients.”
The salon joined the Mobile Chamber in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The team was not sure how the pandemic would affect the business but being a part of the Chamber’s network allowed them to expand their audience beyond the west Mobile area.
For Aloi, the most rewarding aspect of being a business owner is building relationships with her clients. She said “We’ve become really close with all of our clients. You see people so often, sometimes I see people every two to three weeks, that the clients become a part of our family.”
