  • 59 New Jobs

“We appreciate Chart’s continued confidence in the Mobile area by expanding its operations in Theodore,” said Mobile Chamber President & CEO Bradley Byrne. “Expansions like this are made possible by support from Partners for Growth investors and Team Mobile.”

Chart Industries manufactures cryogenic containers of various sizes for the defense and space industries. The company currently employs 165 people at the existing facility in Theodore where cryogenic transport trailers and hydrogen energy are produced. The cryogenic containers that will be manufactured at the new facility will be up to 30 feet in diameter, 100-200 feet long and weigh close to one million pounds.

“The expansion of Chart Industries is another reflection of the great workforce and thriving business environment that exists in the Mobile area,” said Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson. “We are excited to be a partner in the future success of Chart Industries and are grateful for their continued investment in Mobile.”

Chart Industries has purchased the former Standard Concrete manufacturing facility along the Theodore Industrial Canal. This location will allow the company to directly load the containers, which are too heavy to transport on roadways, directly onto barges for transportation.

“Chart Industries’ decision to establish a second manufacturing facility in Mobile County soon after its initial investment speaks volumes of our business climate and workforce,” said Mobile County Commission President Connie Hudson. “This substantial capital investment and the creation of these new jobs will greatly benefit and further diversify our local economy,” she added.

This announcement follows Chart’s expansion in March of 2021 which tripled its employee roster.

“It’s always great to see a company that’s new to Alabama decide to carry out a large-scale expansion project, so I’m very happy that Chart Industries is launching new growth plans in Theodore,” said Greg Canfield, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce. “This is a testament to the strong support the company has received for its operations in the Mobile region.”
