Robert Bryant always aspired to own his own business. Having worked in retail for years, he and his wife, then a banker, were given the opportunity to take over a business when the original owners were ready to sell. This unexpected but fortunate surprise for the couple was a welcome change and they decided to take a leap and become florists. Twenty-six years later, Leaf & Petal Florist & Gift is still blooming and thriving.

This family-owned and run business provides flowers, plants and gifts for all occasions for customers in Mobile and the surrounding areas. In addition, the florist offers services for funeral homes, local schools, hospitals, churches and other local organizations.

Bryant’s previous experience in retail no doubt helped his business thrive. He serves his customers with a commitment to outstanding customer service and by creating unique and artistic creations with flowers.

Bryant says his business has changed over the years as fewer people come into the store. Most orders he gets these days are by telephone and through the internet. His most popular item to sell? His beautiful display of greenery. One review from the store’s website stated they “called from out of town and spoke with the most kind and wonderful gentleman! Family funeral, and because of the rating I chose this place. They did not disappoint!”

Some challenges Bryant says have affected the growth of his company are wage increases, gas price increases and lack of wholesale distributors. Turnover isn’t a major issue, however “this is a family-run business,” he laughed.

Leaf & Petal stays active in the community by supporting local schools, civic organizations, the American Cancer Society and the National Kidney Foundation.
