The Mobile Chamber is a private business organization with more than 1,700 members and the economic developer for the City of Mobile and Mobile County. The Mobile Chamber’s focus is to provide members with networking, marketing and professional development opportunities, expand jobs in the area, develop the local workforce, advocate legislative priorities and offer resources to help small businesses grow. Innovation Portal Names New Executive Director

Dr. Todd Greer was named executive director of Innovation Portal, a nonprofit incubator and innovation hub accelerating startup growth in the Gulf Coast region. Connected to Portal from its inception, Greer has been a member of its board of directors, helping the organization in its programs and initiatives.

 

“After serving as a member of the board of directors and watching the exciting growth in our entrepreneurial ecosystem, I am overjoyed to join the team at Innovation Portal as we, daily, work to support founders and small business owners here in south Alabama,” Greer said. “Joining with our partners, both public and private, we will continue to lay a strong foundation for the business future in our region.”

Greer previously served as vice president of academic affairs at the University of Mobile. During his tenure, he developed programs in the School of Business; helped launch the doctor of nurse anesthesia practice program; led a massive technology transformation; and oversaw academic programs and support services as well as fiscal oversight of seven university schools/colleges along with information technology, student services and library services. Greer earned a doctorate in organizational leadership with a major in human resource development from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

 

Greer has served as a board member and instructor for many local organizations including the Minority Business Accelerator, I-Corps, the Mobile Chamber Young Entrepreneur Academy, the United Way of Southwest Alabama and Mobile United. He currently serves on the boards of Real Advice Mentoring Program (RAMP), Springboard to Success Inc. and For Midtown. He is an advisor to many local startups and nonprofits.

 

“Greer’s experience, coupled with his enthusiasm to help build an entrepreneurial community in Mobile, will be an asset to the Innovation Portal,” said Innovation Portal Board Co-Chair Henry O’Connor. “Our board looks forward to working with Todd as we grow entrepreneurial leaders and provide them the skills for future success.”

 

Innovation Portal provides a growth-focused space and community for entrepreneurs, innovators and creatives to work and connect as well as targeted programming to encourage successful launch, development and scaling of local ventures.

 

The Mobile Chamber founded the Innovation Portal in 2016. Initially housed within the Chamber, the Portal now operates out of a renovated building at 358 St. Louis St. in downtown Mobile. The Chamber remains a strong and supportive partner.

 

“Todd’s energy, business acumen and passion for helping others has always been apparent in the many programs and activities at the Chamber,” said Bob Chappelle, the Mobile Chamber’s interim president and CEO. “Todd is an exceptional choice to lead the Portal and its many initiatives.”.
