Chamber News

The news of Austal USA’s groundbreaking last Friday continues to make headlines around the world. The company is investing roughly $100 million to build a steel manufacturing line, expected to be operational in April 2022.

“This next step not only sets them up for future contracts – it is a move to retain the thousands of the high-paying jobs we have here. Austal’s economic impact continues to grow and benefit Mobile,” said David Rodgers, the Mobile Area Chamber’s vice president of economic development. ICYMI: Here’s the short video Austal released at the event.

Pictured here is Austal’s Mike Bell (left), U.S. Rep.  Jerry Carl, (right) and Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Harker. The three were part of a tour of Austal’s investment and modernization activity surrounding the company’s new steel manufacturing line.
