Business Headlines

As the world remembered Hammerin’ Hank Aaron this week, the City of Mobile joined in, unveiling plans for a “Hall of Fame Courtyard” at Cooper Riverside Park.

Aaron is one of five Mobilians inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the courtyard will include life-size bronze statues of Satchel Paige, Henry “Hank” Aaron, Billy Williams, Ozzie Smith and Willie Lee McCovey.

World Series Champion Cleon Jones, who is a Major League Baseball legend in his own right joined the unveiling ceremony. Jones has worked with the city for some time on this, and once shared the field with Willie McCovey and Hank Aaron during an MLB All-Star Game.

The first graduating class of FlightPath9 completed their studies and joined the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility. The workforce training program provides high school seniors the skills and foundation needed for an aerospace career.

Students learned everything from safety regulations to critical thinking skills, teamwork to time management, and hands-on training with specialized aircraft-manufacturing tools. After completing FlightPath9, students gained additional training in the Airbus Fast Track program, a gateway to an aerospace career without a college degree or prior experience.

A few things to note:

  • This is a voluntary program
  • Taxpayers must pass a rigorous identity verification process
  • An IP PIN is valid for a calendar year
  • There currently is no opt-out option but the IRS is working on one for 2022
