The Mobile Area Chamber’s small business development team is working to understand the new round of the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) that began this week. Here’s what they say is most important to know so far:

  • Application deadline March 31, 2020
  • Must apply through an SBA approved bank
  • 300 employees or less
  • Funds must be used for qualified expenses to be forgivable
  • Maximum loan amount is the average monthly payroll times 2.5 up to $2 million
  • Maximum loan amount for companies in the Accommodation and Food Services industries (NAICS 72) is the average monthly payroll times 3.5 up to $2 million
  • Must have spent the full amount of its First Draw PPP Loan on eligible expenses
  • Must demonstrate at least a 25 percent reduction in gross receipts between comparable quarters in 2019 and 2020.

New: The Alabama Small Business Development Center is hosting PPP Update: Second Draw & More on Friday, Jan. 15, beginning at 11 a.m. During the free webinar, attendees will learn who can apply; how much can you receive and how to calculate; where to apply; what covered expenses have changed; how to maximize forgiveness and more. The Mobile Museum of Art has a new exhibit opening Saturday, Jan. 16. Gordon Parks: Segregation Story in Mobile, 1956 documents the everyday activities and rituals of one extended black family, the Thorntons, in Mobile and Shady Grove, during segregation. The images were originally published in a 1956 photo essay by Parks, an assignment from Life magazine after the Montgomery bus boycotts, but have come to be known around the world for helping to inspire the Civil Rights movement. Mobile Sports and Entertainment Group will host Dinosaur Adventure Drive-Thru at Hank Aaron Stadium, Friday, Jan. 29 – Sunday, Feb. 7. The event features 80 life-sized dinosaurs, including a 40-foot T-Rex, 30-foot Brachiosaurus, Triceratops, Velociraptor and more. Included is a guided audio tour, and the opportunity to take a free adventure photo. Prices start at $49 per vehicle with up to eight people. Learn more here.
