Legislative Update: The Alabama Legislature passed the half-way point based on the 30 days allotted for the 2021 session. Before they recess for spring break next week, the Senate is expected to pass the $7.67 billion Education Trust Fund budget. In addition to a 2 percent base pay raise proposed by Gov. Kay Ivey, the budget includes $30 million for increased step raises for teachers more advanced in their careers. A supplemental bill would provide $100 million of pay incentives for teachers in STEM fields and rural and inner-city schools. Take a look at last week’s highlights here.

In addition to the company, the Thompson Foundation is affiliated with Watermark Design and Thompson Consulting Services, and raises money through company and employee donations, along with employee-managed fundraisers.

“The Thompson companies have a long history of community service and philanthropic giving and we’re proud to be able to contribute financially to mission-based, nonprofit organizations and programs,” said John Baker, chairman of Thompson Holdings and CEO of Thompson Engineering.

Several Chamber member organizations have benefitted, including the American Cancer Society, Feeding the Gulf Coast, Mobile Area Education Foundation and the Mobile County Public Schools’ science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs.
