What is Summer Scrubs?

Summer Scrubs is an intensive career exploration opportunity for current 11th grade students in Mobile and Baldwin counties who want to explore careers in healthcare. You must be scheduled to graduate in 2016.


  • spend each day at a different site, exploring a variety of
    healthcare-related careers.
  • interact with health professionals and observe them on the job
    in a ‘real-world’ environment.
  • are able to discuss and ask questions about healthcare jobs
    and the educational paths available.

Who can participate?

Students who are currently in the 11th grade and meet the selection criteria may apply for Summer Scrubs. The following is a list of the selection criteria for the program:

  • Interest in attending college to pursue a career in healthcare
  • A GPA of 2.5 or above
  • No record of disciplinary action
  • No unexcused absences

When is Summer Scrubs 2015?

July 13 - 16, 2015
8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Students will be assigned to different healthcare sites each day.
Students and/or parents are responsible for transportation to each of these healthcare sites.


How can I be a part of Summer Scrubs 2015?

Summer Scrubs participants are chosen based on a point system.
Each piece of information provided in the application package is awarded points (see scoring box below).

Application Steps:

  • Complete the Application
  • Complete the Essay questions – This is an important part of the Application
  • Ask your counselor for your un-weighted GPA and be sure to complete that section of the Application
  • Ask two teachers for Recommendations
  • (one must be a math or science teacher)
  • FINAL DEADLINE to submit above information is March 6, 2015

How can I Score Bonus Points for
Scrubs 2015?

Bonus Points can be scored in TWO ways!

1.  Apply EARLY- Any student who has submitted a completed application package by February 13, 2015 will receive 2 bonus points added to their final score.
  Refer TWO FRIENDS - Refer a friend to the program and get 1 bonus point added to final score. Earn up to 2 bonus points in total.

     Maximum Possible Score      155 Points

PLEASE NOTE:  Your application package will not be considered complete until the following items are submitted:

   Completed application form w/un-weighted GPA
    2 teacher recommendations (one by a math or science teacher)


Teacher Recommendations

Two teacher recommendations must be submitted no later than March 6, 2015 in order for your application package  to be complete. Please note that ONE recommendation MUST be from a math or science teacher.

Special Tips

Essay - The essay (found on your Application form) is a MAJOR part of the selection decision and accounts for up to 70 POINTS (almost half of the total points available). Please take time to collect and write your thoughts before you submit the essay.

Check your Acceptance Status

The 2014 Summer Scrubs program had more than 350 applicants.
Many times a good candidate is not chosen because of an incomplete application package (such as a missing teacher recommendation or missing essay).

Following up on recommendation letters and having a complete application package is YOUR responsibility!

Information for Selected Participants

Participants selected:
  • You will be notified by email whether or not you've been accepted into the Sumer Scrubs program. If you have been accepted, you will be provided additional information on the necessary steps to prepare for your Summer Scrubs experience.
  • You will be requested to complete preparation paperwork online. There are deadlines to meet and we will stay in close contact with you throughout the process.
  • Must attend a mandatory orientation session with your parent/guardian. The session time and location will be determined at a later date and all participants will be informed.
During this orientation session, participants and their parent/guardian will:
  • Sign releases
  • Be provided a preview of your Summer Scrubs experience
  • Be provided your Summer Scrubs backpack with assigned sites, directions and scrubs
  • Have an opportunity for questions and answers
